Honors Program Mission and Vision

The Honors Program at the University of Nevada, Reno seeks to provide students who are both academically talented and highly motivated with an undergraduate education that nurtures and promotes students' capacities to think competently, understand deeply, and act ethically.

In order to prepare leaders who effectively engage our complex and rapidly changing world, a university education must go beyond the provision of a strong fund of professional knowledge and skill. It is the mission of the Honors Program at the University of Nevada, Reno to provide strong support for the development of students' capacities to think deeply and critically and to act in ways that promote the betterment of all citizens.

  • Monday, November 9: Priority registration for Honors students. Check your email for advising information! Spring 2010 Honors Class Schedule.
  • Tuesday, November 10, 7pm - 9pm: Screening of Honors 200B YouTube; Knowledge Center Auditorium
  • Wednesday, November 11: Veteran’s Day
  • Friday, November 13, 3-4:30pm: Honors Students Dicover the world: presentations, show and tell, and food from Germany, Spain, Costa Rica, and China. Ansari Bldg, Rm. 110
  • Week of November 16th: International Education Week. 
    • Honors Students Discover the World: Presentations, show and tell, and food.  Dates and times TBA.
  • Tuesday, November 17, 2pmFellowships Fair:  Learn about national fellowships such as the Goldwater, Truman, Udall, and Madison, Fleischmann Ag Rm. 253
  • Tuesday, December 1, 3-5pm: Honors Convocation, JCSU Ballroom C (Check-in time 2:30pm)
  • Saturday, December 5: Commencement
  • Wednesday, December 9, 11:30am - 1pm: Prep Day Food and Fun, Honors Program.
  • Hello all UNR National Merit Scholars and Honors students,
    We are being invited by UNR’s University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) to a reception on our behalf. They will have staff and alumni available to answer questions, get you on your way and speak about their experiences. Your parents are welcome to join in the fun as well. (By the way pizza, drinks and dessert are also being provided.)

Congratulations to Matt Polasko, a 2009 Goldwater Scholar!

Scholar

Awarded to outstanding college sophomores and juniors in the fields of mathematics, science, and engineering, the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship is the premier national award for undergraduates in these areas. Matt, a Biochemistry major and Honors student, is one of only 278 Goldwater Scholars for the 2009-2010 school year and the sole recipient of this award in the state of Nevada.
