Honors Ambassador Program
What is the Honors Student Ambassador Program?
Honors Student Ambassadors are selected Honors students who promote a positive perspective of college life to prospective Honors students and their families. Ambassadors share information, answer questions, and help prospective students to make an informed decision when making their college choice. Ambassadors help to develop and participate in programming for current students in the Honors Program
What are the qualifications required to become an Honors Student Ambassador?
Students must
- be current members of the Honors Program
- have participated in the Honors Program for at least two semesters
- be interested in sharing their college experiences
- be willing to act as a good representative of the Honors Program and the University
What are the responsibilities of the Honors Student Ambassadors?
Students will
- participate in on-campus recruitment events, off-campus, and out-of-town recruitment trips when available (College Fairs, Nevada Bounds, Previews, Wolf Pack Advising, Destination Nevadas,)
- participate in local high school recruitment visits (Career Fairs, National Merit visits)
- assist in the first-year experience programming (HRSC programming, HON 200, ice cream socials, orientations, retreats)
- assist with phone calls, mailings, folder stuffing, and other tasks as needed
- assist with the development of programs for current UNR Honors students (Leadership Series, Great Presentations)
- attend Honors receptions and activities (BBQ's, potlucks, Honors graduation ceremonies)
- attend one training session each fall semester
- attend one meeting each month with the Ambassador Coordinator (Honors Program representative)
- participate in a minimum of two recruitment events per semester
- be available to other Honors students and to the Honors Program a minimum of two scheduled hours per month (or a minimum of 8 scheduled hours per semester) in the Honors Program office
- devote a minimum of 5-7 hours total per month to the program (recruiting, meetings, office hours, programming)
How do Honors students become Student Ambassadors?
- complete the Student Ambassador Program application and submit by Friday, April 25, 2008.
What are the benefits of becoming an Honors Student Ambassador?
- to become familiar with the Honors Program and the University of Nevada, Reno
- to meet new people; make contact with other outstanding students
- to have a voice in the Honors Program
- to develop interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
- to build or enhance a resume
- to earn as many as 2 Honors Points per year
How are students chosen to become Honors Student Ambassadors?
The Honors Student Ambassador Program strives to be as diverse and inclusive as possible. The Review Committee is looking for students who represent as many majors as possible, are a cross representation of gender, ethnicity, region, and age, and exhibit many interests and talents. Students must have a good academic record and be enthusiastic about sharing their college stories.
