Honors Residential Scholars Program, An Honors Living Learning Experience Honors Residential Scholars Community Brochure

The Program is a living learning community that gives Honors students the opportunity to take classes, participate in social activities, and live with other Honors student who share an interest in academic and professional issues. The community is open to qualified students of all academic majors who have been admitted to the Honors Program at the University of Nevada Reno.

The Honors Residential Scholars Program is designed to provide educational and social opportunities, to promote engagement in the academic experience, and to encourage personal growth by offering a variety of opportunities and services to achieve a scholar's full potential.

Specifically designed residential learning communities are available to a limited number of Honors Program students who will live in the designated Honors floor of Argenta Hall or Nye Hall and pursue the same curriculum of studies. As a participant member, an Honors Residential Scholar will be enrolled in a cluster of Honors courses: students must agree to participate in HON 200 Seminar and two additional Honors classes in the fall and spring semesters. The Honors Residential Scholar will complete a number of Core Requirements through the courses included in the Community.

The Honors Residential Scholars Community offers students the opportunity to develop strong friendships with other Honors students while fostering an academically enriching living environment. The student will participate in common activities and projects, interact and collaborate with faculty in and out of class, and enjoy a challenging educational experience.

Research shows that a contributing factor to quality undergraduate education is the powerful residential life experience that can be created by living learning communities. The Honors Residential Scholars Community allows for greater bonding among students, between students and faculty, and between students and the institution.
