Summer is right around the corner and the Honors Alum Chapter is once again sponsoring a Pack Picnic on the Quad! Please join us on Wednesday, July 8th, 2009 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm for complimentary cookies, popcorn, watermelon, face painters, and bounce houses while you listen to the sounds of the DG KICKS. Come Join the fun and get to know your fellow Honors alum!

Upcoming Events:

  • 18th Annual Incoming Honors Retreat, August 22-23, 2009, Lake Tahoe
    The Incoming Honors Student Retreat is an excellent opportunity to get to know other Honors students and Honors staff members while learning more about the Honors Program. Activities include: a ropes course, games, volleyball, kayaking, swimming, and a 2-hour Lake Tahoe lunch cruise aboard the M.S. Dixie II.

Have you met with an Honors advisor?
All new Honors students must meet with an Honors advisor. Please contact the Honors Program office at (775) 784-1455 to set up an appointment.

Are you planning on living in the Honors Residential Scholars Community?
HRSC students must enroll in three (3) Honors courses in the fall semester, including HON 200B, and two (2) Honors courses in the spring semester. Please contact an Honors advisor if you are having difficulties including the required Honors courses in your schedule.

Have you signed up for DIRECTIONS?
All new students are required to attend DIRECTIONS, the University of Nevada's summer orientation program. Visit www.unr.edu/directions for more information and to sign up for one of nine sessions.

Congratulations to Matt Polasko, a 2009 Goldwater Scholar!

Scholar

Awarded to outstanding college sophomores and juniors in the fields of mathematics, science, and engineering, the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship is the premier national award for undergraduates in these areas. Matt, a Biochemistry major and Honors student, is one of only 278 Goldwater Scholars for the 2009-2010 school year and the sole recipient of this award in the state of Nevada. Honors Program Mission and Vision

The Honors Program at the University of Nevada, Reno seeks to provide students who are both academically talented and highly motivated with an undergraduate education that nurtures and promotes students' capacities to think competently, understand deeply, and act ethically.

In order to prepare leaders who effectively engage our complex and rapidly changing world, a university education must go beyond the provision of a strong fund of professional knowledge and skill. It is the mission of the Honors Program at the University of Nevada, Reno to provide strong support for the development of students' capacities to think deeply and critically and to act in ways that promote the betterment of all citizens.
